Sports memorabilia has always been something of value to any fan. Take, for instance, when Derek Jeter recently collected his 3,000th hit. The fan who caught the ball was criticized by thousands of people for not selling the ball, which was reportedly worth upwards of a quarter of a million dollars. Instead, he returned the ball to Jeter and received several rewards for doing so. The Yankees gave him tickets to their remaining games and a card company is even producing a card of the man who returned the ball. This, alone, proves how valuable memorabilia is, as the Yankees are spending thousands of dollars simply for their franchise player to keep the valuable ball.
Other people choose to sell memorabilia, some of which can be enough for a nice retirement. Anyone who has collectibles, from older eras, which is proven authentic, will see a nice return. These items can range from autographed cards to pieces of a uniform. It is amazing how much people are willing to pay, simply to remember a historical game or player. Sports memorabilia is something that can make people a ton of money; however, it can also be used as a keepsake, passed from generation to generation.
